Reedhaunter Fuzz Delay

Fuzzy warble.

first observed at the bench, 2024 · numbered 1 / 4.

Meet the Reedhaunter: a fuzz-drenched reactive delay. The envelope-controlled delay follows your dynamics perfectly, warping the pitch and trailing off into a hazy, warm fuzz, like vintage magnetic tape melting in the sun. With tracking turned down, an a subtle delay, the pedal has a uniquely resonant, woody fuzz texture - like a woodwind instrument. With tracking turned up and delay extended, there's nothing subtle about this pedal, which can become a disorienting warbling wall of noise. Put on your boots, wade into the marsh, and see what kind of beautiful, glitchy songs you can catch before the sun goes down.

FIELD NOTES

The Reedhaunter Fuzz Delay is a warped, dynamic lo-fi echo machine that completely throws out the rulebook of traditional modulation. Instead of relying on a predictable, sweeping oscillator to shake your tone, this circuit features a highly responsive envelope follower that links the delay time directly to your pick attack. The result is a living, breathing effect that sags, bends, and warps its pitch based entirely on how hard you hit the strings—serving up everything from unstable tape-deck drift to beautiful, melting vinyl textures.

On the face of the enclosure sits the Curve-billed Reedhaunter, an elusive marsh bird native to the dense, tangled wetlands of South America. This bird was selected because the fuzz has a 'woody' texture similar to a woodwind instrument. When combined with the lo-fi warble, the result is a haunted, reed sound.

You may harness this beast through five highly interactive controls: Delay, Depth, Blend, Tracking, and Feedback. The Delay and Feedback knobs dial in a gritty, analog-voiced echo line, while the Blend knob controls how deep you sink into the wet effect. The real magic lies in the interaction between Depth, which dictates how aggressively your pitch warps, and Tracking, which alters the envelope's sensitivity threshold so you can decide exactly when your echoes begin to beautifully collapse.
